Blue Amberol was the brand name for the first plastic celluloid audio cylinders marketed by the Edison Phonograph Company between 1912 and 1929. The distinctive blue color and finer pitched grooves made them identifiable compared to the black and gold colored wax Amberol cylinders which predated them. In addition to the regular repertoire Edison sold a premium line of classical Concert Blue Amberols. Acoustically recorded Edison Blue Amberol cylinders and 80 RPM Edison Diamond Disks co-existed for over a decade and a half. The cylinders were phased out in the late 1920s when electrically recorded disks came to dominate the recording industry. Edison ceased manufacturing phonographs and records in 1929.
